Patient Care Technician (P.C.T.)

Patient Care Technicians work one-on-one with patients while interfacing with the rest the treatment team and work in various settings.

Patient Care Technicians and trained to provide basic care in dialysis clinics, laboratories, doctor’s offices, and acute care hospitals.

What is a Patient Care Technician (PCT)?

Ambassadors Institute Patient Care Technician Program (P.C.T.) is for 175 hrs of theory and skills lab. This program is conducted over eight weeks with skills lab. 80% theory, which includes 2-3 hours of study per day for (7) days for the student. Skills lab is 20% of the program, and (8) hours of Clinicals.

The Patient Care Technician program (P.C.T.) for individuals with proof of a Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A). Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a certificate of completion. They will be eligible to take the National Certificate Exam through the National Healthcareer Association (N.H.A).

Where does a Patient Care Technician (PCT) work?

Once training and certification are completed, individuals can work in dialysis clinics, laboratories, doctor’s offices, and hospitals. Depending on their goals, Patient Care Technicians can advance in their careers by becoming Case Managers or Office Managers.

What are the admission requirements?

Persons interested in attending the Patient Care Technician (P.C.T.) Program must meet the following criteria for admittance:

  1. Submit a copy of Nursing Assistant Certification.
  2. Provide a copy of valid government identification and signed social security card.
  3. Citizenship requirements include I94 card with date of entry, current passport, and proof of alien registration number if applicable.
  4. Provide proof of American Heart Association B.L.S.- Healthcare Provider C.P.R.
  5. Complete a physical that is signed and dated by a physician or qualified medical representative within one (1) year of start date.
  6. Complete and pass a drug screen within 90 days of the start date.
  7. Provide immunizations records, which include:
    • A 2 step P.P.D. within one (1) year of the start date or an initial 2 step P.P.D. with documented proof of annual one (1) step P.P.D. – OR – C.X.R. within one (1) year of start date.
    • M.M.R., Varicella, Hepatitis B series/waiver, recent Tetanus, and/or Titers.
    • ALL health records MUST be completed by the first day of class
  8. Complete a BCI and F.B.I. Criminal background checks and fingerprinting within 90 days of the start date. The background checks are subject to approval and/or consultation with the Chief Academic Administrator.
  9. Sign an enrollment agreement.
  10. Pay a $35 non-refundable application fee.
  11. YOU MUST PRESENT ON FIRST DAY OF CLASS: NEG COVID-19 TEST (within 72 hours of  start date),NO TEST – NO ADMITTANCE TO CLASSROOM, DO NOT COME TO CLASS WITHOUT RESULTS

How long does it take to complete the program?

Ambassadors Institute Patient Care Technician (P.C.T.) program is approximately 175 hours of classroom and lab participation. This program is taught over a period of approximately 8 weeks, four times a week. Eight (8) weeks of classroom training including 3 days of clinical.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a certificate of completion and will be eligible to take the National Certification Exam through the National Healthcareer Association (N.H.A.).
